How to Apply — Step by Step

1

Go to startupindia.gov.in and create an account with your company email.
2
Apply for DPIIT Recognition
Click "Get DPIIT Recognized" and fill in the application form with entity details, nature of innovation, and business description.
3
Upload Required Documents
Certificate of Incorporation/Registration, brief description of innovation, and a video pitch (optional but recommended).
4
Receive DPIIT Recognition Certificate
If your application meets all criteria, DPIIT issues a recognition certificate. This is usually processed within 2–3 working days.
5
Apply for 80-IAC Tax Exemption (Separately)
The tax exemption under Section 80-IAC requires a separate application to the Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB). A CA/CS can help prepare this application.
💡 Pro Tip

DPIIT recognition is FREE — there is no government fee. Be wary of agents charging high fees just for the recognition step. However, for the 80-IAC tax exemption application, professional assistance is strongly recommended as it involves detailed financial scrutiny.

Startup India recognition is one of the most valuable yet underutilised government benefits for new businesses in India. Legal Chanakya helps startups with the complete DPIIT recognition process as well as the 80-IAC tax exemption application.
